TRIGGER WARNING - Suicide Squad - Film Review

Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer and stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman.
Here we are, the black sheep of the DC Extended Universe: Suicide Squad. The third of the series and the first not directed by Zack Snyder.
This is actually the first DCEU film I saw in theaters, and I thought it was pretty good, but I haven't watched it again until I watched the extended cut on Blu-Ray today.
Does it hold up to what I thought? Let's find out.
Plot
With Superman dead, the world needs a new band of superheroes to step into the breach. Senior US Intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) comes up with a plan - use extreme criminals with special abilities to fight crime, in exchange for them receiving reduced sentences. The band of crime fighting criminals is officially known as Task Force X, but due to the nature of their mission a more appropriate name would be Suicide Squad.
Review
I don't hate this movie. I don't like everyone else does, I thought it was pretty ok. But that's an unpopular opinion and that offends people.
Let's talk about the story, David Ayer was reportedly given six weeks to write the script and it shows. This film could've had a few more drafts or maybe just a different story.
One issue I had is that the Suicide Squad are set out to defeat Enchantress (Cara Delevingne). If this is a world where Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman exist, why couldn't they take care of Enchantress?
Speaking of Justice League, it was pretty awesome seeing Batman (Ben Affleck) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) show up here.
Now, I did watch the extended version and I haven't seen the movie since it came out in theaters, which was over a year ago, so I'm not sure what was added or removed.
In the extended version, it takes about 50-something minutes until they get into the city, where the rest of the movie is a giant action scene. I wish this thing didn't have a giant beam in the sky cliche.
My favorite part is when they're all talking in the bar. I also liked the parts with Deadshot (Will Smith) and his daughter, those were pretty good. I also liked the part with Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and she's in the jester outfit referencing Alex Ross' cover for the Batman: Harley Quinn graphic novel . And the opening scenes in the asylum, and the credits scene with Amanda Waller and Bruce Wayne. And it was an overall entertaining movie.
Let's talk about something I don't talk about in movies much, the music. The music doesn't really fit IMO. A lot of things are doing the "70's music in cool scenes" thing. Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of music, it just doesn't fit here like it does in other movies.
In both Guardians of the Galaxy films and Thor: Ragnarok, they have 70s music and it makes it fun like the opening in Vol. 2 and Ragnarok makes it awesome.
In Baby Driver, the music is synchronized to the gunshots and the lyrics accurately describe what's going on in some scenes.
Let's talk about the characters, you don't know much about them because the movies don't have enough time to talk about them. Deadshot is definitely the best character in the movie, he's the most developed, and he's just Will Smith. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) has the second most and El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) has the third most, the others barely get any.
I know that Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) is Australian and has a pink unicorn fetish, and that Katana (Karen Fukuhara) has a dead husband who's soul is in her sword. Oh! and Slipknot (Adam Beach) is the guy who can climb things!
I really don't like Jared Leto's Joker, he is the worst Joker I've seen, he is not like The Joker. I hate his tattoos, his gold teeth, The Joker is not supposed to be gangsta. I know that The Joker is supposed to be crazy, but Leto does it very poorly, and he's only in it for about 10 minutes. He is no Hamil, Ledger, Nicholson, Romero, or even Zach Galafinakis.
Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag is fine I guess, but Cara Delevingne isn't very good here, she is not threatening and she moves like those balloon people they have at car dealerships.
I'm talking like I don't like the movie, I do. I found it entertaining, and had some good parts in it. But watching this, BvS and Man of Steel recently, this was my second favorite in the DCEU, but now I think it's my third. I don't think it's as good as Man of Steel or Wonder Woman, but I enjoy it more than Batman v Superman.
