Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - Film Review

Halloweenthon Day 5

Halloween 5: The Curse of Michael Myers is directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard, and stars Donald Pleasence, Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell, Wendy Kaplan, Beau Starr, and Donald L. Shanks.

Plot
It's one year since Halloween 4, and Michael Myers (Donald L. Shanks) survives being shot by the police. He continues his search for his niece, who is in a children's' hospital.

Review
If I were asked where the series started to go downhill, it would be this movie. This movie really had no reason to exist, as Halloween 4 would've been a good enough ending, but it made some money, so they rushed out a sequel the next year, and it shows.

This movie isn't good, it's bad, but it's not a pile of garbage or anything (oh we'll be talking about garbage later in the marathon).

So this movie begins the way Halloween II began, with them recapping the ending of the movie that came before it, but instead of no time passing, a year passes in this one.

So it shows the end of Halloween 4 with Jamie (Danielle Harris) attacking her adoptive mother with scissors, and a year later she's in a child's hospital. So what happened during that time period? Also, they transfer Jamie to another room after she wakes up from a nightmare, and Loomis just happens to be there.

There are some parts where it doesn't feel like a Halloween movie, because there's a scene where Rachel and her friend Tina (Wendy Kaplan) visit Jamie in the hospital, and I feel like I'm watching Full House or something, but Loomis shows up to remind us that this is a Halloween movie. This music is not fitting.

I can think of three good things about this movie, Michael floating down the river, kittens, and Michael's scene with Jamie where he takes off his mask in the Myers house, which leads to a problem: Why is the Myers house different in this movie than it is in the original? You can't just change the house without explanation and expect us to be okay with it.

I want to talk about the first of those scenes. So after Michael gets shot in Halloween 4, they throw a stick of dynamite at him but he dodges and escapes, floats down the river, and ends up being taken care of by a homeless man for a year until he wakes up and kills him. Also, when he wakes up we see a Thorn tattoo under his hand, which we'll talk about in the review of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

Also, they put Michael in jail at the end of the movie, only for some guy to break him out and kill all the cops, which we'll also talk about in the review of The Curse of Michael Myers.

This movie introduces that Michael and Jamie have a psychic bond, which is pretty stupid, as she wakes up from that memory she had in the beginning and it woke Michael up from his coma, that's dumb.

Let's talk about the characters. Donald Pleasence, great as always as Loomis, but I've already said all I can about him so far.

Danielle Harris is also really good as Jamie, but it's dumb that she has a psychic bond with Michael now, and whatever caused her to kill her adoptive mother has just gone away now. Also, this is the last time we'll see her until Rob Zombie's Halloween.

Ellie Cornell is ok as Rachel, she dies.

Wendy Kaplan is annoying as Tina and I was wanting her to die, and she does.

Everyone else is ok, I guess.

Overall, I don't really like Halloween 5, I think this is when the series started to go downhill.

I'm going to give Halloween 5: The Curse of Michael Myers a 5/10.

Come back tomorrow for a review of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.
