Black Panther - Film Review

Image
Finally got to see this. Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Martin Freeman, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, and Daniel Kaluuya. Plot After the events of Captain America: Civil War , King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman) and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war. Review This actually was a really good MCU movie. It's not one of my absolute favorites like Captain America: Civil War, The Avengers,  or the first Guardians of the Galaxy . It's a step above your average MCU film like the

Captain America: Civil War - Film Review

Image
I couldn't see Black Panther today, so this will have to do. Captain America: Civil War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, stars everybody and is based off the comic series Civil War by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. Plot A possible cure for superheroes deeply divides courageous Captain America (Chris Evans) and arrogant Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Factions of superheroes divides themselves in to Team Captain America and Team Stark. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawekye (Jeremy Renner) must choose sides. Plus, Bucky Barnes (Sebeastian Stan) is possibly behind the murder of King T'Chaka (John Kani), a member of one of the factions, and T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) his son plans to kill him. After another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps,

Worst Horror Film of 2018 - The Open House - Film Review

Image
The Open House is directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote and stars Dylan Minnette, Piercey Dalton, Sharif Atkins, Patricia Bethune, and Aaron Abrams. Plot Logan (Dylan Minnette) and his mother Naomi (Piercey Dalton) move into an open house owned by Naomi's sister after Logan's father (Aaron Abrams) dies only to find out that strange things are starting to happen. Review I'm going full spoilers here, the movie's been out for about a month and there's no point in watching it, so I'm saving you 95 minutes. If you actually are interested in watching this thing for some reason, just exit out of this review and come back after watching. One thing I want to get out of the way is how bad the ending is. For a film under Netflix's horror section, the horror part doesn't begin until the last 15 to 20 minutes. Some guy (he is never identified) breaks into the house and kills Chris (Sharif Atkins, I'll talk about him later) and Logan finds him dead in

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - Film Review

Image
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is directed by Sam Liu and stars Bruce Greenwood, Jennifer Carpenter, Scott Patterson, and is based off of the Elseworlds comic Gotham by Gaslight  by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola. Plot In an alternative Victorian Age Gotham City, Batman (Bruce Greenwood) begins his war on crime while he investigates a new series of murders by Jack the Ripper. Review One thing I want to get out of the way is that I have not read the Gotham by Gaslight comic so I have no idea how close it is to the book, but from what I've heard it is rather different in some parts. This is the third of DC's animated movies to be R-rated after Batman: The Killing Joke and Justice League Dark . This is rated R for "some violence", I can get that as there is quite a bit of blood, and some other almost R-rated things in there. DC's next animated film Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will be rated R also. I've not seen many of DC's direct to video animated m

Most Underwhelming Film of 2018 - The Cloverfield Paradox - Film Review

Image
Cloverthon Day 3 The Cloverfield Paradox , formerly known as God Particle , is directed by Julius Onah and stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, Zhang Ziyi, Daniel Brühl, Chris O'Dowd, John Ortiz and Askel Hennie. Plot Orbiting a planet on the brink of war, scientists test a device to solve an energy crisis, and end up face-to-face with a dark alternate reality. Review How can a film connected to two really good movies be bad? The answers is The Cloverfield Paradox . I knew they were making a Cloverfield 3, but I didn't know when that was coming out, and then they released the trailer during the Super Bowl and two hours later it's on Netflix. I know why they put it there instead of in theaters. I want to start off by saying this film feels nothing like a Cloverfield movie. All I could find that relates to Cloverfield is the name of the ship is The Cloverfield Station, they say the name of the movie a few times, and at the end of the movie th

10 Cloverfield Lane - Film Review

Image
Cloverthon Day 2 10 Cloverfield Lane is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and James Gallagher Jr. Plot After getting in a car accident, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is held in a shelter with Howard (John Goodman) and Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.), and Howard claims the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack. Review I actually prefer this film over Cloverfield , I am more interested watching this than the first Cloverfield . This was actually the first Cloverfield film I've seen. I first saw it when I rented it from a Redbox back in 2016 and haven't watched it until today. Despite having the Cloverfield name, this film has almost no connection to Cloverfield , except for Emmett talking about how Howard used to work with satellites. While Cloverfield is a found footage movie, this is more of a thriller. If you know nothing about Cloverfield and was expecting a sequel to it, you're going to be disap

Cloverfield - Film Review

Image
Cloverthon Day 1 Cloverfield is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, T.J. Miller, Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel and Odette Yustman. Plot A group of friends (everyone who I just mentioned) enjoying a going away party for Rob (Michael Stahl-David), only for it to be ruined by a giant monster and now the film becomes a found footage sci-fi horror film. Review Not entirely sure where to start with this one. It's one of the better found footage horror films out there (no I have not seen The Blair Witch Project ). The film starts off rather slow in my opinion until the apartment starts shaking at the news mentions that there is a capsized oil tanker near the Statue of Liberty. I like how the film is shot, with Hud (T.J. Miller) filming everything with a camera. Most found footage movies suck, but this one is rather good. At the end of the movie, it shows Rob and Beth (Odette Yustman) on a Ferris wheel in Coney Island and the camera points out t

Groundhog Day - Film Review

Image
Well, today is Groundhog Day, so figured that I would watch and review Groundhog Day . Groundhog Day is directed by Harold Ramis and stars Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell and Chris Elliot. Plot Phil (Bill Murray), a weatherman, is sent cover the story of the annual emergence of the "rat" from its hole. He gets caught in a blizzard that he didn't predict and finds himself trapped in a time warp. He is forced to relive the same day over and over again until he improves himself. Review Ok, so I watched this for the first time today, and I have to say that it is really good. I'm not entirely sure (like usual) where to start with the movie, so I'll just list off random stuff about the movie until I decide to wrap this up. Groundhog Day is considered to be an allegory of self-improvement, which is why Phil is an arrogant jerk but later becomes a good person at the end. Harold Ramis , who directed and co-wrote Groundhog Day , said that he never intended the mo
