Spider-Man: Homecoming - Film Review

Image
Infinitython day 16 or 17, I skipped yesterday so I don't know or really care Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Zendaya, Donald Glover (#glover4spiderman), Jon Favreau, and Marissa Tomei. Plot Peter Parker (Tom Holland) balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of The Vulture (Michael Keaton), a new menace prowling the skies of New York City. Review To think we hadn't had a good Spider-Man movie since 2004. Well 2017 came along and gave us one. This film is the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2 . I don't know if it's better than Spider-Man 2 , probably not, but it's still really good. In my movies of 2017 list I put this film at #11. Do I still stand by that? Yes I do. Spider-Man: Homecoming is the second best MCU film of 2017. I don't know where to

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 15 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillian, Pom Klementieff, and Kurt Russel. Plot After saving Xandar from Ronan's wrath, the Guardians are now recognized as heroes. Now the team must help their leader Star Lord (Chris Pratt) uncover the truth behind his true heritage. Along the way, old foes turn to allies and betrayal is blooming. And the Guardians find that they are up against a devastating new menace who is out to rule the galaxy. Review Well, 15 days. This is now the longest movie marathon I've had so far. Not just on the blog, but ever. My previous record was the Batman marathon I had last year for Batman and Harley Quinn , which lasted exactly two weeks. The movie itself is entertaining. I think it's funnier than Guardians of the Galaxy , but it's not better that Guardians of the Galaxy . When I ranked eve

Doctor Strange - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 14 Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton. Plot After a horrible car accident, brilliant neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) must find a way and a cure to healing his hands. His quest brings him to Kamar-Taj in Nepal where he studies under the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who teaches him the ways of magic and alternate realities. With new skills of interdimensional travel and spells, Strange soon discovers that he must protect the world from a deadly enemy who is out to destroy it. Review This film is not related to the 1978 TV movie  Dr. Strange , which I have seen or the direct to DVD animated movie that I do own but have not seen. Now about the actual movie, it's pretty great, actually. What I want to talk about first are the special effects, they are some of the best in the entire MCU. I saw this in theaters when

Ant-Man - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 12 Ant-Man is not directed by Edgar Wright but Peyton Reed instead and stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, and Michael Peña. Plot Armed with the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Review This is actually my first time watching Ant-Man all the way through, my first time trying watch it I was sick one night and I fell asleep. About me mentioning that Edgar Wright did not direct Ant-Man , there's a story behind that: Edgar Wright was going to direct this movie, but left due to creative differences. He said that he wanted to make a Marvel movie, but they didn't want to make an Edgar Wright

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 11 Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and James Spader. Plot After finding intelligence in Loki's scepter, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner use it to start Ultron (James Spader), a peacemaker, who soon uncovers the world's wrongs, and plans to rid human error. With help from experimented human beings turned allies, the Avengers search to hunt for Ultron, who is trying to make a synthetic human body to upload his mind into. Review Is this movie as good as The Avengers ? No. Is it still good? Yes. This movie definitely isn't as The Avengers , but it is really entertaining. It's got some really good parts, like Iron Man fighting the Hulk in the Hulkbuster suit while Hulk is under the influence of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The party scene near the begi

Guardians of the Galaxy - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 10 Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Michael Rooker. Plot After discovering a mysterious orb in another part of the galaxy, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) from Earth, is now the main target of a manhunt led by the genocidal villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). Being hunted across the galaxy, Quill gets lumped together with a group of misfits that need to learn how to get along before they can become the Guardians of the Galaxy. Review I think this is the first time Marvel has released two great films in a row, as this came out the same year as Captain America: The Winter Soldier , which is also a great superhero movie. This film, much like Iron Man , made characters that pretty much only comic book fans knew about and made them mainstream. This movie is just very entertaining. The best part of the movie is definitely the characters, they're all just so fun t

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Film Review

Image
Infiniftython Day 9 Captain America: The Winter Soldier  is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. Jackson. Plot Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), finding it easier to acclimate to the modern society as a soldier of S.H.I.E.L.D, learns that the organization has been compromised and a Soviet assassin known as The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will stop at nothing to kill Captain America, which leads him uncover a truth that will change everything. Review This movie is definitely one of the best MCU films ever made, definitely in the top 5. This is a fantastic movie, I don't even know where to start with it. It's a superhero movie, spy thriller, and action movie all in one. Speaking of the action, this is some of the best that the MCU has to offer. One of the best action scenes is the scene where Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is attacked in Washington D.C. by HYDRA agents d

Thor: The Dark World - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 8 I'm going to address the poster right away, this was a piece of fan art somebody made and a theater in China actually used it.  And after seeing it, I had to use it for the review. Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Christopher Eccleston. Plot A year after Loki's devastating alien attack on New York, the Mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) along with his friends Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and the Warriors Three (Ray Stevenson, who played another Marvel characte r, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano) fight to save the Nine Realms from deadly threats. When Thor's girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) discovers a fluid like weapon called the Aether, she unknowingly awakens the evil Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) and his Dark Elf army. With this, Asgard may be facing it's darkest hour. Thor forms an uneasy alliance with his nemesis Loki to save Jan

Iron Man 3 - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 7 Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, and Ben Kingsley. Plot After saving New York from an alien invasion, Tony Stark buries himself deeper into his work by building a ton of new and improved Iron Man suits. He also starts having constant nightmares and doesn't know why. But deep in the shadows, a new menace called the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) starts orchestrating a series of terrorist attacks all over the world. When his home is demolished and his suits are destroyed, Stark begins a personal journey to finding out the truth about the bombings and tracking down whoever is truly responsible. Little does Stark know however is that someone else from his past has his own plans against him and proves to be even more powerful than Stark realizes. Review This feels more like a sequel to The Avengers  more than it does to Iron Man 2, just like how Iron Man 2  feels more like an Avengers prequ

Wes Anderson's Best Movie?- Isle of Dogs - Film Review

Image
Isle of Dogs is directed by Wes Anderson and stars literally everybody . Plot When all the dogs of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, 12-year-old Atari (Koyu Rankin) sets off alone in a small plane and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots (Liev Schrieber). There, with the assistance of pack of dogs, Chief (Bryan Cranston), Rex (Edward Norton), King (Bob Balaban), Boss (Bill Murray), and Duke (Jeff Goldblum), he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture. Review I saw this movie yesterday, but I didn't finish the review until today. Isle of Dogs ... If you say the title fast enough, it sounds like I Love Dogs . This is the sixth Wes Anderson film I've seen, the others were Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,  Moonrise Kingdom  and The Grand Budapest Hotel , which I just wacthed today. I actually don't remember much about Moonrise Kingdom  b

The Avengers - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 6 The Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, and Samuel L. Jackson. Plot When the mysterious and unpredictable power source called the Tesseract is stolen by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to rule the entire world the Avengers have to unite and stop Loki and his infinite wrath. The S.H.I.E.L.D. head named Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tries to gather these heroes and prepares them for a mighty battle. When Loki returns and threatens to steal the Tesseract and use it to take over the world, Nick Fury must form a team of elite agents and superheros - featuring Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Agent Natasha Romanoff and Agent Barton - to save New York. Review This was actually the first MCU film I saw in theaters, I was 10 when this came out, and for some reason, I didn't get to picking it up on Blu-ray since last year, I'm

Captain America: The First Avenger - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 5 Captain America: The First Avenger is directed by Joe Johnston and stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, Sebastian Stan, and Stanley Tucci. Plot Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), a rejected military soldier transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down war monger Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) and terrorist organization HYDRA. Review One thing I forgot to mention in my review of The Incredible Hulk is that there is a deleted scene where if you look closely, you can see Captain America's body and shield.  I don't even know if Chris Evans was cast as Captain America yet, I probably doubt it, but it's still cool. So what do I think of the movie? Well I think it's pretty good, it's not as great as The Winter Soldier or Civil War , but it's pretty good, much better than people say it is. When

Thor - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 4  Thor is directed by Kenneth Branaugh and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, and Stellan Skarsgard. Plot The warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live among humans. Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth. Review So Thor isn't too bad actually, it's definitely better than Thor: The Dark World , but not as good as Thor: Ragnarok , which some of you may remember was my first ever review on this blog. It's not in my top 10 MCU movies, maybe a bit toward the bottom, but I did enjoy this movie. It's got some funny moments like Thor going into the pet store asking for a horse, only to find out they don't sell

Iron Man 2 - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 3 Iron Man 2 is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson. Plot With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, Tony Stank (Robert Downey Jr.) faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow) and James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances - and confront powerful enemies. Review This movie gets a lot of hate, I don't love the film, I like it, but not as much as Iron Man , I like it better than The Incredible Hulk, but it's just all over the place, with Tony and the government, Whiplash's (Mickey Rourke) revenge, Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell)'s jealousy, Tony dying from that thing in his chest, etc. It does have some good par

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan - Film Review

Image
Friday the 13th-a-thon Day 8 Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes a Cruise to Manhattan is directed by Rob Hedden and stars Jensen Dagget, Scott Reeves, Barbara Bingham, Peter Mark Richman, and Kane Hodder as Jason. Plot The graduating class of the local high school is going on a luxury cruise with Jason Voorhees as a stowaway. The heroine Rennie Wickham (Jensen Dagget) believes she was almost drowned by Jason as a child. Jason eventually sinks the boat and kills many of the students on it, but many of them escape to Manhattan. A long battle with Jason ensues until Jason is washed away in the New York sewers by a midnight flooding of toxic waste. Review I am definitely not alone on this, I don't like this movie. I think this is definitely the worst of the Paramount films, and the most boring too, because it's an hour and 40 minutes. About 10 minutes are set with these two teens on a small boat on Crystal Lake, 50 minutes are on this cruise ship, and 40 minutes are s

The Incredible Hulk - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 1 The Incredible Hulk is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, and William Hurt. Plot After surviving a deadly gamma radiation accident, scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) travels the world in search for a cure to his inner force of rage that turns him into a massive green monster known as the Hulk. Though he is close, Banner must watch out because General Ross (William Hurt) and his team are searching for him and want to use his condition for military weaponry. Running out of time and options, Banner turns to his ex Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) for help. Meanwhile, a new threat rises as power hungry soldier Emil Blonksy (Tim Roth) turns into a deadlier and more terrifying beast that can match even the Hulk's powers. Review Although this film came out the same year as Iron Man , it's not as good as Iron Man was. It's fine . This movie really doesn't have much to talk about, so this review isn't as detailed

Iron Man - Film Review

Image
Infinitython Day 1 Quick announcement: Before I get into the review, I want to say that I won't be seeing Avengers: Infinity War until a few days after it comes out. Due to some scheduling stuff, I'll most likely be seeing a few days after it comes out. Also, on the 27th I will be out of town, so I won't be watching any movies that day, so I'm starting this marathon today. I am marathoning and reviewing the MCU movies I have not reviewed, which is everything except Thor: Ragnarok , Captain America: Civil War , and Black Panther . This is also so I can catch up on the movies before seeing all these heroes go up against Thanos, I mean, this is what the last ten years have been building up to. Got that? Okay, onto the review.  Iron Man is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terrence Howard. Plot After being kidnapped by a powerful terrorist organization, brilliant industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) narr

Carrie vs. Jason - Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood - Film Review

Image
Friday the 13th-a-thon Day 7 Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood is directed by John Carl Buecher and stars Lar Park Lincoln, Kevin Blair, Susan Blu, Terry Kiser, and Kane Hodder as Jason. Plot Years after Tommy Jarvis chained him underwater at Camp Crystal Lake, the dormant Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) returns to the camp grounds when he is accidentally released from his prison by a telekinetic teenager. Review Not sure where to start with this one actually. This was supposed to be Freddy vs. Jason but ended up being a movie about Jason vs. Carrie, hence the title of this review, except she's not Carrie. Instead, we have Tine (Lar Park Lincoln), a girl who's telekinetic powers are triggered by emotions, like Carrie. The movie itself is quite good too, like in my ranking of the Friday the 13th series, it's #4 for me. It also has some good kills even if the MPAA really censored it. The sleeping bag scene is one of the best kills in the movie, possibly the who

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie - Film Review

Image
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and stars Steve Blum, Beau Billingslea, Wendee Lee, Melisaa Fahn, Daran Norris, and Jennifer Hale. Plot Days before Halloween 2071, a terrorist named Vincent (Daran Norris) blows up a tanker truck releasing a deadly virus that kills hundreds on Mars. Fearing an even bigger biochemical attack, a very high bounty is offered for the arrest of this terrorist. Bored and short on money, the Bebop crew are out for that reward. Review Cowboy Bebop turned 20 years old about a week ago and I didn't find out until yesterday, so I decided I would review it's film adaptation Cowboy Bebop: The Movie or Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door  in Japan. The name was changed to Cowboy Bebop: The Movie  in other countries because of legal issues over the title because Knockin' on Heaven's Door is a song by Bob Dylan, who the villain is partially based on. Instead of coming up with a new subtitle, they just added
