Worst Horror Film of 2018 - The Open House - Film Review

The Open House is directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote and stars Dylan Minnette, Piercey Dalton, Sharif Atkins, Patricia Bethune, and Aaron Abrams.

Plot
Logan (Dylan Minnette) and his mother Naomi (Piercey Dalton) move into an open house owned by Naomi's sister after Logan's father (Aaron Abrams) dies only to find out that strange things are starting to happen.

Review
I'm going full spoilers here, the movie's been out for about a month and there's no point in watching it, so I'm saving you 95 minutes. If you actually are interested in watching this thing for some reason, just exit out of this review and come back after watching.

One thing I want to get out of the way is how bad the ending is. For a film under Netflix's horror section, the horror part doesn't begin until the last 15 to 20 minutes. Some guy (he is never identified) breaks into the house and kills Chris (Sharif Atkins, I'll talk about him later) and Logan finds him dead in the car.

The killer knocks out Logan and goes for Naomi inside the house. He ties her up, punches her, and breaks her fingers. Logan eventually wakes up and unties Naomi and goes downstairs to investigate. When he's in the basement, he runs into Naomi and accidentally kills her, thinking she was the killer. He goes upstairs and the killer remove's Logan's contacts to mess up his vision.

Logan goes outside to escape, he survives until morning when the killer and his hypothermia catch up to him. The killer drives away to another open house, hopefully not setting up a sequel.

This film has all the horror cliches, secluded location, shower scene, false jumpscares, killer in the house.

The cast is very mediocre in here, Dylan Minnette isn't very good as Logan. All I know about him is that his dad dies in the beginning and he wants to run in the Olympics.

Piercey Dalton also isn't good as Naomi, the mother. I really can't think of anything to say about her.

Sharif Atkins isn't too bad as Chris, he first appears the cashier at some clothing store who Naomi flirts with, Logan doesn't like him that much until near the end before he dies.

Patricia Bethune is alright as Martha, the new neighbor to Logan and Naomi, the weird woman who at first says that her husband is dead, and then alive, then dead again. She appears near the end when Logan is outside trying to get away from the killer.

Aaron Abrams is Logan's dad and Naomi's husband who's name I can't remember. He dies.

Overall, The Open House is just another dull, not scary Netflix original to add to the pile of Netflix's quality film library. The Open House is one of the worst horror films I've ever seen. It's down there with films such as Halloween: Resurrection, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, and A Nightmare on Elm Street (the remake, the original is a classic).

The Open House gets a 3/10.

I won't be able to see Black Panther the day it comes out due to some scheduling stuff, but I might see it a few days later. So to make up for that, on Friday I will do a review of Captain America: Civil War in it's place so stay tuned for that.
