Iron Man - Film Review
Infinitython Day 1
Quick announcement: Before I get into the review, I want to say that I won't be seeing Avengers: Infinity War until a few days after it comes out. Due to some scheduling stuff, I'll most likely be seeing a few days after it comes out. Also, on the 27th I will be out of town, so I won't be watching any movies that day, so I'm starting this marathon today. I am marathoning and reviewing the MCU movies I have not reviewed, which is everything except Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America: Civil War, and Black Panther. This is also so I can catch up on the movies before seeing all these heroes go up against Thanos, I mean, this is what the last ten years have been building up to. Got that? Okay, onto the review.
Iron Man is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terrence Howard.
Plot
After being kidnapped by a powerful terrorist organization, brilliant industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) narrowly escapes using an iron suit he crafted from scrap metal and spare parts. Upon returning home, he devotes all of his time and resources to perfecting the Iron Man suit, and using it to fight evil, sometimes in the place where he least expects it.
Review
"Think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe, you just don't know it yet." -Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in this movie, really describes this movie as the first installment in the MCU.
Iron Man is a great introduction to this universe and just a great superhero movie period. Actually I don't know where to start with this one.
Before this movie came out, people didn't know who Iron Man was except for comic book fans. This movie made the character of Iron Man mainstream, which started off the MCU and made a lot of comic book characters.
One of my favorite parts is when Tony is being held captive in the Middle East and he makes a suit out of scrap metal and kills terrorists with it. I also really like the part where Tony was in the normal Iron Man suit an he uses missiles from the suit to kill terrorists. Also the part where Tony blows up the tank and walks away. That part is awesome.
I also really like the battle with Tony and Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) in the suits.
Also, that scene with Nick Fury after the credits is awesome, I quoted it a few paragraphs ago.
There's also so many other awesome parts, but it's rather late at time of writing and I don't want to stay up to late just writing.
Let's talk about the cast, everyone in here is really good, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, but the best is of course Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stank, after his downer period in the 90's with all the drug stuff, this really was a comeback for him and now he's one of the most popular actors in Hollywood right now because of Tony Stark.
But let's talk about Tony Stark himself, he's awesome, he's funny, he's charismatic, he's just awesome. There isn't much to say about him that hasn't already been said, he's just an awesome character.
Jeff Bridges is really good as Obadiah Stone a.k.a Iron Monger, which is a suit made out of scrap metal that Tony used in the Middle East when he was held captive. He was friends with Tony but betrayed him because of money and power. It's pretty much clear that he's been selling weapons to pretty much anyone who would buy one, rouge governments, terrorists, anybody. He may have been doing this for years behind Tony's back. After Tony's attitude to their work changes and he investigates what Stane's been up to, Stane takes matters into his own hands.
Gwyneth Paltrow is really good as Pepper, Tony Stark's personal assistant and later love interest throughout the MCU, yeah. I'm sure we get to know more in other MCU movies.
Terrance Howard is good as James Rhodes, a friend of Tony's. James Rhodes is War Machine in the MCU (not in this movie though), but I'm not sure why he was replaced with Don Cheadle throughout the MCU.
Overall, Iron Man is a great superhero movie and a great introduction to this universe.
I'm going to give Iron Man a 9.5/10.
Stay tuned tomorrow for reviews of Friday the 13th: Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and The Incredible Hulk.
