Iron Man 2 - Film Review
Infinitython Day 3
Iron Man 2 is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Plot
With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, Tony Stank (Robert Downey Jr.) faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow) and James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances - and confront powerful enemies.
Review
This movie gets a lot of hate, I don't love the film, I like it, but not as much as Iron Man, I like it better than The Incredible Hulk, but it's just all over the place, with Tony and the government, Whiplash's (Mickey Rourke) revenge, Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell)'s jealousy, Tony dying from that thing in his chest, etc.
It does have some good parts, like Whiplash on the race track. The fight scene with Iron Man, War Machine, and Whiplash's drones is pretty cool.
This movie feels more like a prequel to The Avengers than it does a sequel to Iron Man, like I feel like Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) was put in the movie just because she was going to be in The Avengers in a couple years after this came out.
Also, I find it kind of weird that Tony is dying from the arc reactor in his chest, but he makes a new element, and everything's ok and he's not sick anymore.
Let's talk about the characters, the returning cast from Iron Man is just as great as they were in that film, Robert Downey Jr. and Gwenyth Paltrow are really good as Tony and Pepper. Tony is dying from the thing in his chest, but creates a new element, everything's ok now. Pepper is now the new CEO of Stark Industries after Tony gives her that position.
Don Chealde is good as War Machine, he replaces Terrence Howard, but I think that was over money issues, but Don Cheadle's really good here.
Scarlett Johansson makes her debut in the MCU as Black Widow, who starts off working at Stark Industries but it turns out she works for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). She's good in here but we learn more about Black Widow later in the MCU.
Mickey Rourke is ok as Whiplash, he's one of the rather ok MCU villians, most of them are, some exceptions. His father dies and he builds whips with similar technology to Tony Stark and tries to kill him to get revenge on the Stark family after it comes out that he's Iron Man.
And Sam Rockwell is sorta like a business rival to Tony Stark and he has Whiplash build technology for him to make weapons for the army and take down Tony Stark.
Overall, Iron Man 2 isn't terrible, I do enjoy it more than The Incredible Hulk, but it feels like an Avengers prequel than an Iron Man sequel.
Iron Man 2 gets a 7/10.
