Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - Film Review
Friday the 13th-a-thon Day 4
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is directed by Joseph Zeto and stars Corey Feldman, Kimberly Beck, E. Erich Anderson, Crispin Glover, Carey and Camilla More, and Ted White as Jason.
Plot
Set immediately after Friday the 13th Part III, Jason survives his encounter with Chris and starts targeting teenagers on vacation in a home next to the Jarvises.
Review
This movie is just as great, if not better than Friday the 13th Part III, it's not my favorite of the series, we're getting to that in a couple days, but it's my second favorite.
The recapping previous movies is back, because it shows Paul telling the story of Jason to the counselors using clips from the first three movies, but it's a little weird since Part III is set after Part 2 and they're using clips from it during Paul's story.
This movie also has one of my favorite kills when Jason kills Jimbo (Crispin Glover) by stabbing his hand with a bottle opener and stabbing him in the face with his machete. For some reason, another one of my favorites is when everyone in the car sees this hitchhiker and one of them asks if she has a sister, she flips him off, and is then killed by Jason while eating a banana.
One of my favorite parts is when Tommy (Corey Feldman) shaves his head to trick Jason and then e starts attacking him.
Let's talk about the characters. I want to start with Tommy Jarvis. Tommy Jarvis is my favorite non-Jason character in the entire series and Corey Feldman plays him really well. He's a horror fan and I'm sure many horror fans who grew up in the 80's (I was not one of them) will relate to him. At the end, he is teased as being the next Jason in the series.
The other characters in the movie are actually fun, entertaining, and likable, such as Lawrence Monoson as Ted, he's always joking with Jimbo about being a "dead f*ck" and running something involving his sexual failures through his "computer". He is funny and entertaining and dies after watching and old pornographic film reel. Jason is Christian and he hates this kinda stuff.
Crispin Glover is entertaining as Jimbo, but terrible with relationships, but he does get a shot with one of the twins (Carey and Camilla More) that the gang meets on their way to the lake. He also adds to the stereotype that white people can't dance. Fun fact: On set, he was dancing to Back in Black by AC/DC but it wasn't used in the movie.
Kimberly Beck is ok as Tommy's sister, she may be the final girl of the movie, but she doesn't kill Jason, Tommy does, so Tommy is the final boy I guess?
And the other cast isn't bad either.
Overall, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is a great slasher and a great installment in the series and if it were really the last one in the series, it would be my favorite, but no, we're getting to that in a couple days.
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter gets a 9/10.
