Predator - Film Review
Predator is directed by John McTiernan and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Elpedia Carrillo, Sonny Landham, Shane Black, and Kevin Peter Hall.
Alright, before I actually go on, this may not be a daily or consistent marathon, because there's a lot of stuff going on in my life right now, and the power may be going out where I live, and this may not be daily. Also, not only am I doing the Predator trilogy before I see The Predator, but I'm also reviewing the Alien vs. Predator duology. Alright, onto the review.
Plot
Dutch's (Arnold Schwarzenegger) team of commandos go off to find hostages. On the way they find skinned bodies with looks of terror on their faces. They find the terrorists camp and kill them all. But thats only the beginning of the bad things. The commandos are picked off one by one by an invisible enemy and die horrible deaths until only Dutch is left...
Review
Wow, this is an awesome action movie. Predator is great. I don't even have nostalgia for it, it's just great. I first saw it on IFC last year and thought it was great.
This movie could've come off as just another cheesy, B-movie, but it doesn't.
It's up there with both Alien and Aliens in my opinion, it's just a really good sci-fi/action movie, well it's more of an action movie than science fiction, but it's a good mix. Man, it would be awesome if we got an Alien and Predator crossover. We did? Oh, they aren't that good? I see...
This is actually a pretty suspenseful movie, you actually feel tense while watching it, especially with Alan Silvestri's score, and when it's just Dutch and the Predator, you just know that it is one.
This also has some really good lines in it, such as "GET TO THE CHOPPAAAA!", Hawkins' (Shane Black) jokes about his girlfriend, which may be a bit to NSFW to say here, Dutch's remark to the Predator after seeing it without the mask, and others.
Also, the Predator's skull and spine kill, absolutely amazing.
Everyone is great in this movie, especially Arnold as Dutch, he is just amazing, one of his best roles. He's awesome.
Carl Weathers is great as Dillon, a friend of Dutch, but then it comes out that this whole operation in Central America, but then it starts to get real when the Predator starts killing everybody, even Dillon.
Shane Black is good as Hawkins, and he is also directing and co-writing The Predator, which is coming out soon.
Overall, Predator is just a great action/sci-fi movie that could've been a cheesy, B, action movie, but it's so much more than that. Please watch it i you haven't already.
I'm going to give Predator a 10/10.
I don't know if I will get around to reviewing Predator 2 tomorrow, as I will probably get power outages and stuff, but then again I don't really like Predator 2, so we'll see, but don't hold your breath.
