Review
If I could sum up how I felt about The Nun, that word would be "disappointed". The Nun is a disappointment.

So this movie is a spin-off/prequel to The Conjuring 2,as it's about Valak, the demon nun, and it even ties into the first Conjuring, as one of the characters from this was edited into a scene with The Conjuring at the end of this movie. They even added an extra line from Ed, saying "they called him Frenchie".

This movie relies way too much on jumpscares, and you can easily see when they're about to come, one of them was even in the trailers. There was even an ad pulled from YouTube because it was too scary.

So I laughed a few times during this, but at scenes that I don't think were meant to be funny. Like you see English signs in Romania, Aquanun, Frenchie/Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) bringing a wooden cross into a bar, Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) spitting the blood of Christ on a demonic nun, and Sister Irene doing the T-Pose while possessed, and a young girl saying some stuff about how dinosaurs never existed and their bones were just "put there by God to test us" or something because dinosaurs weren't in the Bible or something.

I was also quite bored during the movie, and in some parts during the movie I was just uninterested, which also happened with Annabelle, but I thought this was a bit better than Annabelle.

The opening scene in Romania was pretty good, probably the best scene in the movie.

The cast in this movie is pretty good, yeah, not much to say.

Overall, The Nun is a disappointment, but it's slightly better than Annabelle. Quite a bit of the movie is uninteresting and it relies way too much on jump scares, but it does add to the Conjuring lore by tying into the first movie.

I'm going to give The Nun a 5/10.

  1. I agree with your review...I said it was forgettable, uninteresting, and the scares we've all seen before.

    1. The ones by not directed by James Wan just aren't as good as the ones that are. The only one that comes close in my opinion in Annabelle: Creation.
