Halloween III: Season of the Witch - Film Review

Halloweenthon Day 3

Halloween III: Season of the Witch is directed by Tommy Lee Wallace and stars Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelkin, and Dan O'Herlihy.

Plot
An apparent murder-suicide in a hospital emergency room leads to an investigation by the on-call doctor, which reveals a plot by an insane toymaker to kill as many people as possible during Halloween through an ancient Celtic ritual involving a stolen boulder from Stonehenge and Halloween masks.

Review
8 more days until Halloween, Silver Shamrock! Well, technically we have 20 days until the holiday, but 8 until the new movie.

When this came out in 1982, fans hated it because it didn't have Michael Myers in it, but the hate has died down and it is now a cult film among Halloween fans.

When I first watch this a couple of years ago, I didn't think it would be that good since Michael wasn't in it, but after watching it, I actually did like it. I mean it's not as good as 1, 2, 4 and H20, but those 4 and this are the only good ones so far.

Halloween II was supposed to wrap up the Michael Myers story, and Halloween was going to become an anthology series with a new movie with an unrelated story set around Halloween. Because of the negative reception this got, that never happened, but it would've been nice to see.

So this evil company, Silver Shamrock, stole one of the stones from Stonehenge, somehow, and they put a piece of it in the chip on the masks, and when the commercial plays, it kills the wearer and bugs and snakes come out of your body, somehow. So how did they get a chunk of Stonehenge?

Also, Silver Shamrock puts orange juice in their robots, that's kinda weird.

There's a scene where you see a commercial for the original Halloween playing on a TV in a bar, so technically Michael Myers is in this movie.

The whole thing about this mass murder being inspired by rituals performed by the ancient Celtics thousands of years ago is interesting and so is Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy)'s speech about it. A joke on the children.

That ending though. They didn't take it off the third channel. Also, Dan with robot Ellie (Stacy Nelkin) was kinda funny at the end.

The cast isn't bad here, but there's not a whole lot to talk about. Dan is a doctor who's divorced and has a patient come in who said Silver Shamrock as going to kill us all and the guy is killed by a man in a business suit, who then kills himself in the parking lot right after, so Dan and the guy's daughter Ellie go to investigate. Also, he gets tied up and one of the Silver Shamrock masks is put on him, but he takes it off and throws it at the security camera in one try.

Stacey Nelkin isn't bad as Ellie, but I can't think of much to say. She was kidnapped by Silver Shamrock and replaced by a robot, and she's the daughter of the old dead guy from earlier.

Dan O'Herlihy as Conal Cochran is probably the most interesting character in the movie. He created Silver Shamrock and he wants to play "a joke on the children" by performing an ancient Celtic ritual with Halloween masks and a TV commercial. Those masks are awesome though.

Overall, Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a decent sequel, it's not great, but it is good. Kinda wish we got to see how it was originally going to go after this.

I'm going to give Halloween III: Season of the Witch a 7/10.
