Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Film Review

Jurassicthon Day whatever

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is directed by J. A. Bayona and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, James Cromwell, Isabella Sermon, B.D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum (somewhat).

Plot
Three years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that's about to erupt. They soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs, while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet.

Review
So remember when I said Solo was enjoyable but there were things I didn't like about it? That's how I feel about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It's a fun movie, but it is kinda disappointing.

Also, I am going to be adding spoilers in here, as the movie's been out for a week now.

This movie really added nothing new to the Jurassic Park series. In some parts, it didn't quite feel like a Jurassic Park movie to me, it felt a little more a like a different movie with the Jurassic World characters just put in there.

The first Jurassic World had rich people trying to militarize dinosaurs, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has rich people trying to militarize dinosaurs. And auction them off to other rich people.

It's also got a "save the animals" message in the movie, kind of like Rose saving the llama-horse things in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, because some of our character really care about saving dinosaurs and there are people protesting with picket signs for dinosaur equality or something.

This movie also brings human cloning into the Jurassic Park franchise, becuase the character Maisie (Isabella Sermon) is a clone of the daughter of Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), an old friend of John Hammond, who hated human cloning, which ended their friendship.

For a movie called Jurassic World, very little of the movie is set on Isla Nublar, they're on it for just a little bit, but that's because it's destroyed by a volcanic eruption. Most of the movie is set in Lockwood's mansion.

It's also got a rather disappointing post-credits scene, it's just two pteranodons flying over the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas and that's it.

Some parts are pretty cool, like the scenes on Isla Nublar and the fight with the Indoraptor at the mansion is cool. My favorite scene on Isla Nublar was Owen, Claire and that Franklin (Justice Smith) escaping the park with Claire and Franklin in the glass pod things from the first Jurassic World and it rolls into the water.

The scene with Owen and Claire trying to get T-rex blood is amazing and pretty terrifying. And so is the scene in the very beginning. Another really good scene was Claire and Franklin in the computer room trying to escape from a dinosaur while lava is flowing into the room.

Let's talk about the characters. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back as Owen and Claire because they were in the last movie. Claire is part of this pro-dinosaur group and she convinces Owen to go to Isla Nublar with her so he can save Blue from the volcano. And then they sneak on to a military ship, and get held captive in the basement of this mansion.

Justice Smith is annoying as Franklin and I hated hearing him screaming in every scene he was in.

Daniella Pineda was ok as Zia, just kinda forgettable.

Rafe Spall as Eli Mills is your typical evil bad guy who wants money. In this case, he's working with Dr. Wu (B.D. Wong) to create a new species called the Indoraptor made out of DNA from the bone of the Indominus Rex. He's also auctioning it off to evil rich people. He's ok.

James Cromwell isn't that bad as Benjamin Lockwood, I thought he was going to be like another Hammond, but he was a friend of Hammond, until the whole human cloning thing. He's killed by Eli near the end.

Isabella Sermon plays Maisie, who is the cloned human girl who is very against Eli's auctioning dinosaur business.

Jeff Goldblum is just wasted in this movie. If you saw him in the trailers and really wanted to see him in the movie, too bad, because that part in the trailer is 95% of his role in the movie. There was a kid who was sitting a few seats next to me in the theater and he had his mouth wide open when he showed up. He also did the same when we see a painting of John Hammond on the wall in the mansion.

Overall, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a fun, but average and kinda forgettable movie. I would definitely watch it over the first two sequels though.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom gets a 6.5/10.
