The Star Wars Holiday Special - Film Review

Forcethon Day VII

If this was your reaction after watching The Star Wars Holiday Special, I don't blame you.

The Star Wars Holiday Special is directed by Steve Binder and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, James Earl Jones, Art Carney, Harvey Korman and Diahann Caroll.

Plot
Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) and Han Solo (Harrison) try to get to the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day, but are stopped by an Imperial blockade. Chewie's family passes the time with various forms of "entertainment".

Review
This is the worst thing I've reviewed for the Forcethon, I don't think the marathon will get worse than this. Prequel fans won't defend this, George Lucas won't defend this, I don't think anyone will defend this.

I have no idea where to start with this so I'm just going to list random things.

One thing I want to say is that Life Day is just stupid. What kind of holiday is that?

The overall story is rather uninteresting, it's pretty much Chewbacca's family waiting for him to celebrate Life Day while Imperial officers come into their home looking for Han and Chewie while they have random celebrity cameos or just random things to pad the special out. Let's talk about those.

We get Lumpy (Chewie's son) watching holographic circus performers, a scene that is very unnecessary, goes on longer than it should, and you feel like you lost -50 IQ points.

Saun Dann (Art Carney) talking to an Imperial Officer in his shop. I though this would just be a cameo but he has a larger role in the movie.

Malla (Chewie's wife) watching a cooking show with a four-armed Harvey Korman in drag. I can't described this even if I tried.

Itchy (Chewie's father) watching what's pretty much VR softcore porn with Diahann Caroll in a family-friendly special. I also couldn't describe this if I tried.

Jefferson Starship. That is all.

A cartoon that was the first appearance of Boba Fett only two years before The Empire Strikes Back. This is the closest thing to good in the entire special despite the animation sucking. This was included as an Easter egg on the complete collection Blu-Ray. This is the closest we will likely ever get to the Holiday Special legally being released on home video of any kind.

A musical number featuring Bea Arthur in the Mos Eisley Cantina.

George Lucas came up with the story for this film and now he wants every copy destroyed, I don't blame him.

This thing had five writers. That many writers isn't a good thing, this can be complicated as they can have different ideas.

Most of the cast in here only appear for cameos, Luke (live action) only appears in two scenes, so do Leia and C-3PO.

Darth Vader is only in it for one scene, and that's just to explain why there's an Imperial fleet over Kashyyyk.

There's more, but I have another review to write and I don't want to talk about this anymore.
The plot sucks, the acting sucks, everything except the Boba Fett cartoon sucks.

I have a feeling that my zero followers know who any of the then-celebrities are.
