Review
How can a film connected to two really good movies be bad? The answers is The Cloverfield Paradox.
I knew they were making a Cloverfield 3, but I didn't know when that was coming out, and then they released the trailer during the Super Bowl and two hours later it's on Netflix. I know why they put it there instead of in theaters.
I want to start off by saying this film feels nothing like a Cloverfield movie. All I could find that relates to Cloverfield is the name of the ship is The Cloverfield Station, they say the name of the movie a few times, and at the end of the movie the monster from Cloverfield shows up, as this is a prequel to Cloverfield. While they were filming this movie they changed the story to make it connect to Cloverfield.
This feels like a generic space thriller rather than something from Cloverfield. A bad space thriller. It's not a good sign when you're watching a Cloverfield movie and keep checking to see how much time is left.
There's a part where this guy's arm comes off and becomes sentient and it looks like Thing from The Addams Family.
On this ship they have a particle accelerator that can bring in things from alternate dimensions and it brings a woman named Mina Jensen (Elizabeth Debicki), who's name I did not know until researching this movie after watching the movie for this review, who's a member of the space station, but from and alternate dimension. She then turns on everybody and wants to kill them all to bring the accelerator back to her universe.
The cast is alright, I can't tell you much about these characters. I had to look on the Wikipedia page to learn these characters names. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is ok as Ava, a member of this space station who's children died in a house fire, I also learned that while researching, there's an uninteresting subplot about her husband who finds a little girl (Aliens much?) and helps her find her parents. They say that her parents were tracked down but that's right near the end.
Elizabeth Debicki is ok as Mina, the girl from the alternate universe, I already told you all I know about her.
There's one guy in the movie who literally has worms burst out of him... yeah.
I can't think of anything to say about the's characters, or who's who with most of them because I've not heard of these actors before.
Overall, The Cloverfield Paradox isn't a good movie, it's especially worse coming after 10 Cloverfield Lane. If you're a fan of this series, don't watch this movie, but seeing as how this marathon started after the movie came out, you've probably seen it already. I can see why it's on Netflix. Sucks that the Cloverthon ended on such a down note.
The Cloverfield Paradox gets a 5/10.
