Is it Worth the Wait? - Incredibles 2 - Film Review
Incredibles 2 is directed by Brad Bird and stars Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, and Brad Bird.
Plot
Telecommunications guru Winston Deavor (Bob Odenkirk) enlists Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) to fight crime and make the public like superheroes once again. That leaves Mr. Incredible with one of his greatest challenges ever -- staying home and taking care of their three children. As Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack offer him a new set of headaches, a cybercriminal named Screenslaver launches his plan -- hypnotizing the world through computer screens.
Review
I will answer the title question right now: Yes, it definitely is.
Since this movie came out today, I won't get into many spoilers. I can't really decide if I think this is better than The Incredibles or not. If I choose The Incredibles over this, it's probably because of my nostalgia for The Incredibles.
Both this and the first one would be good for a double feature because this is set just right after The Incredibles. It starts with the family in the parking lot after Dash's track meet about to fight the Underminer at the end of the first movie, pretty much rendering the game The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer non-canon.
This movie didn't really give us a lot of time with The Underminer that much. That's all I'll really say, but Underminer isn't the main villain, Screenslaver is.
One thing that I will say definitely improves over the first, the animation looks much better and more realistic, but that's because technology has just gotten better over fourteen years. Also, the only thing that doesn't look realistic in modern Pixar movies are the characters.
The action scenes are really awesome, like some of Elastigirl's superhero work, and the fight with The Underminer is awesome too.
Some of the funnier parts are with Mr. Incredible watching the kids at the house. One of my favorite scenes is when he's doing algebra with Dash and he doesn't understand it.
Let's talk about the characters. I don't want to go too much into the characters we already know such as Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Frozone, Violet, Dash, or Jack-Jack because I already talked about them, and they're all just as great as they were in the first movie.
The only member of the Parr family who doesn't have the same voice actor is Dash, who was played by a different actor because Spencer Fox is an adult who no longer sounds the same. Also we learn about Jack-Jack's powers, but we knew he had powers in the first movie and the trailers.
Winston Deaver is the one responsible for making superheroes legal again, so he invited Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone to his company building and chooses Elastigirl to lead his campaign. He also looks very similar to his voice actor, Bob Odenkirk.
Catherine Keener plays Evelyn, Winston's sister and business partner. All I'm gonna say.
And this movie brings my favorite character from The Incredibles back, Edna Mode, who appears for a few minutes to watch Jack-Jack overnight. I'm ok with Edna only appearing for a few minutes because I can't really think of anywhere else she would fit in this story.
Overall, Incredibles 2 is a very fun time and definitely worth the fourteen year wait. Can't wait until Incredibles 3 comes out in 2032.
Incredibles 2 gets a 9.5/10.
