Insidious: Chapter 3 - Film Review

Insidiousthon Day 3

Insidious: Chapter 3 is directed by Leigh Whannell and stars him, Lin Shaye, Stefanie Scott, Dermot Mulroney and Angus Sampson.

Plot
A prequel set before the haunting of the Lambert family, where Elise (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

Review
I thought this film was actually quite good, maybe a bit better than Chapter 2, but not as good as the first one.

Unlike the first two, this has almost nothing to do with the Lambert family except for the pictures of Josh as a kid they showed in the first movie.

One thing I really liked was when they brought a couple of demons from the other two, where they showed The Bride in Black attacking Elise and Darth Maul- I mean, the Lipstick-Face Demon appears at the very end before the credits.

One thing I want to point out is that between the beginning where Quinn meets Elise, and when Quinn first gets haunted, it doesn't really feel like and Insidious movie. I don't know if that's just me, but it doesn't feel like it.

Let's talk about the cast. Lin Shaye is great as always as Elise, so there's not much to say.

Specs and Tucker appear again, but in here they just have a paranormal investigation show on the Internet, and they're invited to help with whatever's attacking Quinn and at the end they're hired by Elise. Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson are still good as them.

Stefanie Scott is good as Quinn, the girl who's mother died and she wants to be an actress but then gets hit by a car and gets haunted by the Wheezing Demon (check the Insidious wiki, that is it's name) and then stuff goes down. I would say she's your typical teenage girl horror protagonists, though.

Dermot Mulroney is good as Sean, Quinn's father... that's about it.

Overall, sorry this review isn't as detailed as my other two Insidious reviews, I apparently have writer's block while writing this and I had trouble actually watching the movie because I rented this off my TV and it kept buffering.

Insidious: Chapter 3 is a good horror sequel, not one of my favorite 3rd installments in a horror series like Friday the 13th Part III, or A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, or even Halloween III: Season of the Witch, but it is a good horror sequel, I like it just a bit more than the second one, but I'm giving it the same grade.

I'm excited to see Insidious: The Last Key tomorrow but I am a little worried because it's a horror release in January. Hope it's good.

8.5/10
